Original Portal Project Goals
The new Vignette software tools were to be used to accomplish several important goals.

• Consolidate current distributed web investments on campus
• Develop a navigation structure that is subject-based as opposed to an organization-based
• Distribute the work of creating and maintaining content to non-technical content owners
• Share writing and publishing standards across all content published
• Provide site visitors with a standard, consistent, and timely presentation of content
• Provide “How to” information about common business processes
• Create a site uniformly accessible to persons with disabilities
• Develop new applications within the portal context applying single sign-on
• Enable personalization of content
